March 27-April 4, 2002

Well 7 days, 2000 miles and 240 pics later, here is the update from one great trip. Mikael from Sweden came over and we took some extra time to ride around. There were some 20+ bikes (Mikael, Lance, Buddy, Maxie, Johnny, Dave, Phil, Robert, Richard, Steve, Joy, Steve, Roland, Rick, Debbie, Dean, Shelley, Jeff, Linda, Stan, Bev, Rick, Peter, and Cheryl with Mum in the chase truck), for the journey from Houston to Del Rio on Wedsnday, stopping in San Antonio at the Acadiana for some of the best Chicken Dumplins outside of Grand-Maws!.

Thursday morning, we headed over to Lajitas through Big Bend. Along the way, we stopped at Judge Roy Bean's place, The Pecos River overlook and then to the Basin at the top of Big Bend for lunch. After filling the tank with food, we headed to the resort to check in. We hung around the resort and made our own little parking lot party before heading to the restaraunt and bar on site. The band they had playing was great and the food was even better!!

Friday, we headed up to Presidio on 170.....one of the best roads in Texas. We crossed the border into Mexico, but found everything closed for Good Friday. A few of us were very happy to be back in Texas, as we unintentially took all of our bikes across. From Presidio, Mikael, Johnny, Maxie, Jeff, Linda, Rick, Debbie, Dean, Shelley, Phil, and Lance headed back down 170 and on into the park to Bockius Canyon where we were rowed across the Rio Grande in a small boat. From there, we rented horses and rode the mile or so into town for lunch. After lunch, we ran into Peter, Cheryl, and Peter's Mum in the local cantina. We rode our horses back to the river and caught a boat back across to our scoots. From there, we headed to the La Kive where we ran into Steve, Joy, Steve, Bob and Teri. Decided we would eat back at the resort, so we headed out after a few pics and socializing.

Saturday, there were several groups heading back different times and directions. Mikael and I decided to take the long way through Alpine to Bracketville, up to Rock Springs, then over to Hunt and down to Kerrville, with Steve, Joy, Steve, Johnny, Maxie, Rick, Debbie, Dean, Shelley, Jeff, Linda, Roland, Ralph, and Charlene in the chase truck. We were all able to stay just in front of the rain and had burgers for lunch in Marathon next to the Gage Hotel. The journey took us through all kinds of climates, from cold to hot to almost rain to lots and lots of WIND. Saturday night consisted of a Lance's Parking Lot Pizza Party.

It was not till the next morning (Sunday) that I found out we lost a fellow Area #1 member, Friend and biker in an unfortunate accident that happened from Big Bend park to Kerrville. Richard Mobley will be missed by all.

The remainder of the trip was enjoyed by Mikael, Maxie, Johnny, and Lance as we all decided to stay the extra days. On Sunday, we headed out west through Hunt, riding all the great roads out there from 335, 336, 337, 16......... It was a great time and we even found a great place for a burger called Toads Road Kill Cafe in Leakey!!

Monday, it was off to the East up to Llano for some famous Coopers BBQ.....Best Ribs I have ever had!!!! Then we dropped down to Willow City Loop to pay Henry a visit.  From there, we headed over to Sandy, passing the smelliest place in Texas, then to Luckenbach. From Luckenbach, we headed back to Kerrville on old Tunnel Road!!

Tuesday took us back to Houston by way of Comfort, Sisterdale, Kendalia....Devil's BackBone and into Gruene to have lunch at the Gristmill. After lunch, we shot back to Houston in time to make it to the OZ bar!!
