Monday, September 4, was Labor Day. Temperatures topped 109o. Lance left Houston for Minden, Louisiana at 9:00 am. He stopped every 30
minutes, drinking one bottle of water, and then pouring another bottle on himself to try to stay cool. He pulled into Linda Gayle and Fred Berry's house about 4:00 pm. By 7:00 am on Tuesday, he was on
the road again. Bob rode from St. Louis to meet Lance in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas on Tuesday night. The weather became considerably cooler and the ride into St. Louis on Wednesday was very
comfortable. Bob and Dawn showed Lance the sights around St. Louis, then dropped him at the airport about 5:00 pm Thursday, September 7.
Sandra left Houston on Southwest Airlines the same day,
stopping in Phoenix, where she changed planes, getting onto Lance's plane, so we could continue on to Los Angeles together. Once in Los Angeles, we rented a car and drove to the Holiday Inn in Newport
Beach.
FRI: We met Nancy and Susan for breakfast and planned the day. Later that afternoon, we headed to Bistro 201 on Newport Beach Harbor to help decorate for the rehearsal dinner that we were
co-hosting. We then rode down Balboa Peninsula to the house where the wedding was to take place. A fabulously beautiful house right on Newport Beach Harbor. We held the rehearsal, and then went
back to Bistro 201 for dinner. After dinner, many of us headed to a local pub for more socializing and refreshments.
SAT: The weather is fabulous, as always in California. We went back
to the honeymoon suite at The Westin, where Nancy and Steve held court. The hairdresser was set up in the suite's dining room. Sandra's hair was coiffed, along with the other bridesmaids' and we all
met back at THE house for photos before the wedding. Then the BIG event! The beautiful bride, the dapper groom and the ceremony overlooking the harbor. A trio played for the ceremony.
Another band played for the reception and dancing. Everyone dined on both salmon and filet mignon. A very special occasion indeed!
